The look, the tone, the words, all of it combined shakes Anakin out of the cloud of bitterness he'd been falling into. He doesn't exactly back down, but at least he's distracted from his frustration with the Council. Instead, he's staring at Obi-Wan, piecing together what he's said...and didn't say.

"Obi-Wan," he says very carefully. "What do you mean?"

And the only reason he hadn't leaped onto Obi-Wan's mention of Padme was he still wanted to believe she was happily on Naboo and nothing bad had happened to her and considering the state of the rest of the galaxy, he wasn't so sure that was true.
