Anakin frowns and crouches down by the device, running the fingertips of his recently re-attached prosthetic over it (he didn't bother putting the glove back on).

"I didn't mean actual cracking, Obi-Wan. But...the construction is strange. A lightsaber's overkill but some kind of blowtorch might work."

"They tried that, actually, before they even called me in. Here," he says, stepping around Anakin and tthe probe both, and pointing to where there is a very faint scorch mark on the shell of the probe.

"Huh," he shakes his head and stands again so he can walk around the whole thing before looking at his droid who appears to be done with scanning the probe. "What've you got for me, Artoo?"

The astromech whistles and beeps a few times before projecting a holographic representation of what it was able to discern in front of the two Jedi. It's not nearly as detailed as Anakin would like.

"Is that it? Sure you your scanners don't need some maintenance?"

The offended blat Anakin gets in response likely doesn't need translation.

"Well, that's still more than we've been able to get before," Obi-Wan says. "Good job, both of you."

"Might be some kind of cortosis alloy. If it is, that'd give our lightsabers a hard time too. You think it's Separatist?"

If it was, what the hell were they using it for?

[soresumaster]

"Perhaps," Obi-Wan muses. "But it has a feeling of greater... age than that. Of course that doesn't preclude some artifact being used by the Separatists."

"Great," Anakin says, drawing the word out longer than absolutely necessary.

"Guess I'm going to be here a while. Don't suppose I could talk you into bringing snacks?"

[soresumaster]

"How about I go and fetch us a decent meal, instead? If this keeps on long enough after that, then barring anything else requiring my attention, I could be persuaded to bring snacks, yes."

Anakin grins. "Mother-henning me again, Master? If you insist."

Because you know, at least it comes with food. "I'll get some tools."

[soresumaster]

"I'll be back in a little while," Obi-Wan says. Pauses a moment, and shakes a finger at Anakin's droid. "And you. Make sure he doesn't lose his arm again before I get back."

He's teasing. Mostly.

"You don't get to hold that over my head forever you know," Anakin grumbles as he goes to get his tools and start to work.

The fact that Artoo beeps cheerfully back at Obi-Wan his acceptance of the task doesn't help things at all.

He'll stop teasing by tomorrow, only to bring it up again in a month or so.

It takes maybe half an hour for Obi-Wan to go and return with something like a decent meal, drinks, and snacks for later.

By the time Obi-Wan gets back, Anakin's taken off his cloak and pulled up his sleeves, engrossed in figuring out the puzzle the probe represents.

It's just as well he asked for food beforehand because it's entirely possible he'd have forgotten later.

"Think I've found an access panel," he mumbles around a very tiny screwdriver of some sort held in his teeth while he uses his fingers to feel out the seams of the panel in question. "Need to figure out where to pry..."

"Why don't you let me hold that driver, and have a bite to eat?" Obi-Wan asks. He sits on the edge of the bay, sipping a cup of hot tea.

[morally_cryptic]

"Huh?" Anakin glances up at Obi-Wan, parsing the words he'd only half-listened to. "Oh. I've almost got it, just a second."

Though just a second can quickly turn into wait, when did an hour go by?

Obi-Wan waits, sipping his tea, and grins for a moment when Anakin comes back to himself.

"Hungry yet?" he asks.

He's about to say no and then his stomach answers for him. Shaking his head slightly, Anakin puts the driver away and focuses on Obi-Wan.

"...okay. I guess I'm hungry. What did you bring?"

"Special from Dex's," Obi-Wan replies, holding out a stay-hot take-out container.

That has him perking up as he reaches out to take the container though after he accepts it he can't help but look at Obi-Wan a little suspiciously.

"How special? Is this some experiment of his?"

[soresumaster]

"I've been assured that you will enjoy it."

[morally_cryptic]

"I guess that's assurance enough...are you having some?"

[soresumaster]

"Anakin, I've been sitting here for an hour. I've already eaten." He nods at the empty stack of containers waiting to be recycled.

"....what?"

Kriff. He hadn't actually noticed.

"Thanks for waiting?"

Now if Obi-Wan had only ever been able to get him to stay in one spot for this long back when he was still small and adorable.

"I tried getting your attention several times," Obi-Wan says.

Digging into the meal, he shrugs slightly, "I was on a roll."

[soresumaster]

"I noticed." He gives Anakin a wry grin. "Have you learned anything?"
