There's a moment, when Anakin enters the Temple, that he gets a feeling of something almost familiar. Something almost forgotten. He pauses in the corridor and tries to pinpoint exactly what it is, reaching out into the Force, searching for the sense of whatever is bothering him. He growls in frustration, as whatever it is is too light, too elusive to grasp hold of. Now even more annoyed, he stalks toward his quarters, ignoring various greetings from the people he passes.
He enters his room and drops his bag onto the floor, heading for the 'fresher when something catches his eye. Anakin turns slowly and looks at the rather shiny object lying on his bed. And stares, recognizing it. Ever so slowly, he reaches out with a gloved hand toward the lightsaber hilt resting on his bed and picks it up, staring down at it like he doesn't recognize it, even when there's no way he couldn't. Suddenly everything
snaps into place for him. The feeling of foreboding. The lightsaber.
What happened, where is Obi-Wan?He storms out of the room and down the corridor, looking for someone who'll tell him what happened.
He doesn't have to walk far before almost stumbling over Master Yoda. Barely retaining enough sense to show proper respect, Anakin bows to the revered Master and drops to a knee so they might converse at eye level. Holding up Obi-Wan's lightsaber hilt, he asks. "This was lying on my bed when I returned, Master, where is he?" Okay, apparently not
completely proper respect...
Yoda waited several moments to respond, fixing Anakin with a Look that said he would not tell the Padawan what he wished to know until the boy calmed himself. Forcibly, Anakin pushes down his the emotions building within him, puts on a calm seeming, and tries again. "I only just returned, Master, and Obi-Wan's lightsaber was on my bed. Can you tell me what's happened to him?" He's only ever heard of a Padawan being given the Master's lightsaber when the Master dies and....he'd know that, wouldn't he? He'd feel it. It can't be that...so what is it??!
Finally, Yoda answers Anakin, "Assigned, he has been, to the Senate. Missing, he has been, the past several days." Anakin's eyes widen at that, missing?! The Jedi Master continues, "Last seen, Obi-Wan was, leaving Senator Organa's before dinner. Going to CoCo Town he said he was."
Anakin nods, "Thank you, Master," and stands.
"Going, are you?"
"I have to find him. And I think I know where to start looking."
"Already looking for him, we are."
Anakin flashes a grin that's really more a baring of teeth, "But you haven't found him, Master. I will." And with that, he's gone, running down the hall and out into the streets of Coruscant toward his swoop bike. Soon enough he's hopped on it and zooming through the skylanes toward Coco Town and Dexter's restaurant.
He gets there in record time, touching down just outside of the cafe and hopping off the bike, striding inside. Luckily, Dexter catches sight of him and waves, "Be with ya in a minute."
Anakin nods curtly and waits, standing, shaking his head no to the droid who asks if he wants a cup of jawa juice or anything. A few moments later, Dexter approaches Anakin. "What can I do for ya?"
"Where's Obi-Wan?" Getting right to the point, apparently.
Dexter reaches up and scratches the back of his head, "Don't fully know. He'd been coming to lunch and dinner most of the time while you've been gone. Haven't heard from him in a few days though."
Anakin sighs, "Do you know anything else?"
Dex shrugs, "He was supposed to be here for dinner and didn't show up."
Anakin nods, "Thanks."
For nothing. And then he turns, leaving the diner and walking in the direction Obi-Wan would have come from the Senate, casting out with his awareness into the Force, searching for some hint of his Master. After several minutes of walking, he catches a hint of
Obi-Wan and pauses, reaching out further, finding himself led to the spot where Revan and Obi-Wan had their confrontation, an icy feeling in his gut growing as he goes. He can almost
smell the residue of Force lightning there, and his skin crawls as he recognizes the second Force signature lingering here.
Revan. His cybernetic hand clenches, jaw tightens. From there, it's not so difficult to track back to the landing bay Revan used. To hear about the woman who blasted the attendant through a window.
What is she doing? He heads back to the Temple, thinking all the way about where she could have taken him and as he goes, something niggles at the back of his mind. He's heading for his room, to get his bag when something, a sight or a sound or a smell suddenly reminds him of that mission to Korriban, of talking with Revan about the planet.
That's it. That's where she took him. He's not sure how he knows, he just...does. So he begins sprinting to his room, running in and snatching up his bag, then running toward the nearest landing pad for a ship before anyone can stop him.
Partway there, he stops, hand falling to his side where his lightsaber ought to be but which he lost on Geonosis. He can't possibly go chase Revan down without a lightsaber and yet....there's no
time to build one...
However, there's another lightsaber that might as well be his. But he gave it to the Masters and they probably have it locked up in the Archives somewhere.
Sith. There's nothing for it, though. He
needs that 'saber. Not to mention for the poetic justice of using it against
her.
It takes a lot of work. A lot of sneaking. A lot of being
very careful. Much more careful than he normally is. Amazing what enough motivation can do for a person. It helps that there isn't really much security on the lightsaber, even one that was constructed by a Sith. Soon enough, it's stowed away in his bag, and then he leaves, going to the nearest landing pad for real this time and finding a ship he can take.
He got in trouble with Obi-Wan once for 'borrowing' a fighter but surely this time Obi-Wan will understand he had to do it...
It helps that once you've actually
stolen something (the saber), the second theft doesn't seem so difficult.
Bare minutes later, he's slid into the cockpit of a ship that can hold two and blasted off away from the Temple and Coruscant.
He had never wanted to go to Korriban again.
Funny how things happen.
